Advanced Transport Operating System (ATOPS)
The System Status Display Study is part of the Advanced Transport Operating Systems Program sponsored
by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration’s Langley Research Center and is directed
toward the development of advanced display information for the flight deck operations of future commercial
aircraft. The system status display (SSD) is an electronic display system which provides the crew
with an enhanced capability for monitoring and managing the aircraft systems and which may be used in
a standalone mode or in conjunction with automated system control. The benefits of this system include
improving the crew’s interaction with the aircraft systems, improving the reliability of crew and system
operations, and ensuring efficient use of flight deck workspace.
